This is the first time I came across a religious collection of poems. As a Roman Catholic I am edified reading this poetry rich with familiar terms, places and Saints associated with my beliefs. God is reflected in nature, places, and conversations. How beautiful to ponder on the art of poetry.
The poem, "June 16, 2002" (Roman Incense, p.19) conveys the canonization of Saint Padre Pio. A Capuchin priest wounded and suffered, but with humility and holiness, Padre Pio is poetically revisited: a Saint teaching us how to love God and journey home to Him.
