INTO THE DEEP
Have you ever visited the Baroque city of Turin? Or prayed in the ancient shrine of Our Lady of Oropa? Have you ever read the letters of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati? You may have seen the verse, Verso l’alto, “Towards the High,” signed on black and white photos taken on mountain rocks. Pier Giorgio climbed the Italian alps, expressing the endurance and determination needed as one strives for sanctity, to reach God like a summit. A gutsy youth, Pier Giorgio stands for Catholic principles, namely Truth, which he not only believed in and defended, but strove to live by. At a time when our society appears to abandon the language of Christ and opt for the language of the world, and when Love has lost the meaning of sacrifice, Pier Giorgio teaches us the radicality of the Christian vocation while remaining connected to the world. Pier Giorgio understood the ugliness of sin, but the beauty of divine Truth directed his life. Join Fr. David Bellusci, OP, PhD, and get to know Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati.
